Family History Studies

People studying their family history are quite likely to contact to the Group when they find an ancester with a connection to the North Staffordshire Railway.

The Study Group has no staff records in its possession; those records that have survived being at the National Archive. However we are always interested to find out about what you have discovered, and individual Study Group Members may be able to help so please do get in touch.

The National Archive records which are kept at Kew are unfortunately not complete but they do tend to exist for station and signalling staff - as opposed to footplate staff. The records are filed under station name and by surname.

Station Masters were also often identified by name in Kelly's (and other) Trade Directories for the appropriate period.

In general, much of the company's surviving original material can be found at the National Archive. Its online catalogue can be accessed here. To help in the specific studies of the North Stafford the materials are classified upder RAIL 532, and you can access an index of that material here..
